DAPHNÉ MENOZ
ACTRESS - FIGHT CHOREOGRAPHER

DAPHNÉ MENOZ

I have always been fascinated by the fighting scenes. From Totally Spies to Walker Texas Rangers with Chuck Norris. When I was little I was already captivated by the magical side of fighting. I’m absolutely passionate about the technical aspects of the fights and the interpretation of these.
After my masters degree in theater, I devoted some time to doctoral research along with training as an actress and practicing wrestling for several years. It was during this research that I developed what I call « the dramaturgy of hitting » or in French « dramaturgie des coups » : how to write a fight for cinema and theater and why.
I try to create a « chorégraphie d’auteur » : each choreography is unique and gives each actor and actress the opportunity to reveal a new facet of their character.
I have fed on several artistic approaches like dance or theater. Even filmmaking by Quentin Tarantino, Paul Verhoeven or Xavier Dolan.
Today, passion has become my full-time profession. I write fight scenes for theater and cinema. I train and coach actors about the stage fight, to respond to a project or a specific request.

ACTRESS'BIOGRAPHY
I discovered theater in High School, classical theater. I was rather attracted to slam, so discovering the theater through the character of Clytemnestre...
It was rather confusing !
I continued on this path with a bachelor and a master’s degree in theater studies, which allowed me to discover different facets of theater, including contemporary and performative theater.
I explored different artistic approaches, then I trained for three years in the Actor’s Studio method.
After a time devoted to the development of fight choreography, I resumed my training as an actress. I particularly like the roles of powerful women who are determined and subtly manipulative. All the same, I feel quite comfortable playing the opposite, or the so-called " bodily " roles, that are wilder and have an animal instinct.
I am experimenting in parallel with contemporary dance, modern jazz and animal locomotion. The objective being to explore several possibilities of the body.
